Bridegroom rice, also known as maapillai samba rice, is a traditional red rice variety that is native to Tamil Nadu, India. It is named so because it was often served to newlywed bridegrooms to boost their energy and strength for a physical test of lifting a heavy rock. This rice is rich in iron, vitamins, manganese, zinc and fibre, which have various health benefits for the body.
